Witchayoot Huangsuranun

DPhil Student

Witchayoot joined the Department of Microbiology, MORU in 2020 as a laboratory technician of the Molecular Microbiology team. His research focuses on developing molecular diagnostics for pathogens causing acute undifferentiated fever and is part of the South and Southeast Asian Community-based Trials Network (SEACTN), a Wellcome Trust Innovations Flagship project.

Witchayoot started his DPhil at the University of Oxford in 2021. He holds a Master’s degree in Molecular Medicine from Imperial College London and a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science with a Chemistry minor from the Mahidol University International College.

His thesis, Developing multiplex molecular diagnostics for tropical pathogens, focuses on developing a CRSIPR-based rapid point-of-care diagnostics for bloodborne viruses, as well as exploring dried blood spots as a specimen for an automated molecular test. This thesis also evaluates a currently in-development point-of-care serological diagnostics. Currently serving as laboratory technician and manager, his interest also includes designing and fabricating laboratory equipment using economical manufacturing methods such as 3D printing to solve practical problems for laboratory workers.
