Dr Chansamouth graduated from the University of Health Sciences, Vientiane, Laos in 2004 (General Medicine). After graduation, she continued her Master’s degree in Tropical Medicine and International Health in the Institut de la Francophonie pour la Medicine Tropical (IFMT) during 2005 and 2007. In 2008, she joined LOMWRU and has since served as a government staff member at the Microbiology Laboratory, Mahosot Hospital, under the Lao Ministry of Health. She earned an MSc in epidemiology at LSHTM in 2011 and completed her DPhil in Clinical Medicine in 2024 on evaluating the impact of antimicrobial prescribing guidelines on antimicrobial prescribing of Lao doctors.

Vilada has led national hospital antimicrobial use surveys across Laos and played a key role in developing the country's first antimicrobial prescribing guidelines, both in pocketbook and mobile app formats. Her research focuses on evaluating and improving antimicrobial prescribing practices in Lao hospitals. In addition to her work on antimicrobial stewardship, Vilada has contributed to numerous studies on the epidemiology of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance in Laos.

  • Wellcome Trust Master’s Fellowship in Public Health and Tropical Medicine - successful (30 months-started date 29th September 2011)
  • Li Ka Shing Foundation (LKSF) English Language Scholarship (4 months-awarded on 1st July 2009)
