John Bleho
Media & Communications Consultant
John Bleho has handled media and communications for the Bangkok-based, Wellcome-funded Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) since 2013. His work at MORU includes writing and producing MORU e-News, website content for www.tropmedres.ac, news pieces, web stories and press releases. John also handles media relations, media training for MORU colleagues, Twitter, branding and photography, and produces annual reports and short films for MORU.
John’s significant contributions include upgrading www.tropmedres.ac and integrating it with the Nuffield Department of Medicine and University of Oxford websites, and drawing international and regional media attention to MORU’s work on antimicrobial resistance, the emergence of artemisinin resistance in Southeast Asia, and the extent of melioidosis across the tropics.
A graduate of McGill University and a native of Montreal, John has extensive experience in media, communications and publishing in Canada, the United States and Southeast Asia. Prior to MORU, John was publisher of Thailand Tatler and the Thai editions of Elle, Cleo and Marie-Claire, and wrote, edited and produced books, web stories and reports for the World Food Programme (WFP), the International Rescue Committee (IRC), UN Women, UNICEF, UNDP, Coca Restaurants and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). He also worked at Glamour magazine and The Globe in the US.
