On 24-26 Feb 2025, Paul Newton, Head of MORU’s Medicine Quality Research Group (MQRG), and MQRG Deputy Head Céline Caillet presented work by the MQRG at the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and WHO meeting, Strategic and Tactical Interventions to Address Medical Products-Related Crimes.

Paul Newton (MQRG), Pierre Esseiva (School of Criminal Justice, University of Lausanne), Céline Caillet (MQRG) and Mickael Deats (MQRG Honorary Visiting Fellow and UNODC Consultant).

Paul introduced FORESFA (Forensic Epidemiology and impact of Substandard and Falsified Antimicrobials) and its activities, and Céline DAFODIL (DAshboard for Field-pOrtable screening Devices using scientific Literature evidence). They had an amazing opportunity to network with key stakeholders, and learn of the challenges that law enforcement, customs officers and police investigators face when trying to identify, arrest and prosecute criminals involved in falsified medicine crimes.

The attendees were particularly interested to hear about MQRG’s work on testing innovative forensics to identify clues of the origins of falsified medicines, and on the portable technologies shown on the dashboard for identification of falsified medicines.
